Bolivia: Pico Austria and your first 6,000-metre peak

Combine Andean culture, trekking and two mountain objectives on a shorter journey through Bolivia. Mirando al Sur’s programme includes the Island of the Sun, Condoriri and Pico Austria before moving to Sajama for the planned Acotango climb (6,052 m).

The ten-to-eleven-day trip is designed as an introduction to greater altitude. Relatively straightforward routes still require fitness, mountain experience and an individual assessment of how you adapt to the environment.

Your mountain trip with Mirando al Sur

Titicaca and the high-plateau communities form part of the approach to the climbing stages. The Island of the Sun, Copacabana and La Paz add a cultural dimension.

This is a shorter alternative to the three-week Bolivia expedition. Acotango is its objective above 6,000 m; Huayna Potosí and Parinacota are not part of this itinerary.

That is the programme’s aim, combining earlier mountain activity with a relatively straightforward climb. Altitude is still demanding; discuss your experience and preparation before booking.

What guiding ratio is used on Acotango?

The published programme specifies one guide for every three clients on this climb.

How long is the complete journey?

The product gives ten to eleven days. The destination itinerary is combined with outward and return flights, so the exact count is confirmed for the booking.

The journey passes through Copacabana and the Island of the Sun and leaves time in La Paz. An active recovery day in the Sajama area is also planned.

Are all meals included?

No. Breakfasts and full board in the mountains are included, but meals in La Paz and Copacabana and during transfers are separate.
